2009 Chicago ALPFA Cares Initiatives
- As an organization, Chicago ALPFA Cares helped complete 75 tax returns for the 2009 tax year at three separate tax events resulting in over $114,000 in tax returns for the “Ladder Up” Tax Assistance Program organization in Chicago
- On May 8, 2009, Chicago ALPFA Cares took over 12 classrooms at Robert Castellanos Elementary School in Chicago, teaching 4th through 8th graders “Economics for Success” and “Junior Achievement – More than Money” through the nationwide “Junior Achievement” program
- Chicago ALPFA Cares has partnered with the “Chicago Cares” volunteer organization twice in 2009, first in January for Chicago Cares’ Celebration of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and a second time in June for the annual Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon, the largest single day volunteer event in the City of Chicago. For the Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon, ALPFA partnered with sponsor KPMG in helping paint Chicago Elementary Schools.
- For the remainder of 2009, the volunteers at ALPFA Cares plan to continue to build on our existing partnerships, and execute our first annual holiday toy drive for the Chicago ALPFA Chapter.
