Dear ACMP Mentors, Mentees, ALPFA Students, and Program Guests:
|
Thank you for attending the third event of the 2006-2007 ALPFA Chicago Mentorship Program this past Saturday at the offices of Deloitte. With nearly 40 attendees, this event defined what networking is and helped participants to understand the benefits that networking can provide to their professional careers.

I hope that you came away from this event with an understanding of the following items:

- How to Frame Your Mentoring Relationship as a Networking Relationship
- Three Reasons Why Networking Doesn’t Work (No Purpose, No Goals, No Plan)
- Jim Calzaretta, Deloitte Lead Tax Services Partner, then provided us with insight into how you should strategically think about a networking opportunity, networking dos, how to avoid networking traps, and how networking can translate into long-term success for your career
- Michelle Ivey, with Deloitte Recruiting, then spoke to us about Deloitte as a global accounting, tax, consulting, and financial advisory services firm and also spoke to us about the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion initiatives
- Judy Chavez conducted a “Prepare your Sales Pitch” session that gave students an opportunity to write their “30-Second Elevator Pitch”
- Finally, Rocio Estephania Melendez Bardales conducted the “Network! - People Bingo” group activity which allowed students to practice their “Sales Pitch” while allowing them to meet other participants in the program
