Event 04 Summary - January 6, 2007
"Map Your Career! How to Succeed on the Job!"
Presented by Ernst & Young

Dear ACMP Mentors, Mentees, ALPFA Students, and Program Guests:
A belated thank you to everyone for attending the fourth event of the 2006-2007 ALPFA Chicago Mentorship Program, which occurred on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the offices of Ernst & Young (E&Y), a global public accounting firm. John Pitz, a Director in E&Y’s Indianapolis office, gave an excellent presentation on becoming successful through developing business relationships, both internal and external to our organizations. To reach this goal, he provided us with ten things that we can do to nurture these relationships and leverage them to achieve superior results. We also gained additional insight into these 10 items from the E&Y panelists, who were: Elizabeth Power, Juan C. Martinez, Fernando Rodriguez, and Steven Sanabria. I would to thank John and our panelists for sharing their time and words with us.

I hope that you came away from this event with an understanding of the following ten items:

  • 10. Communicate up and down the line.
  • 09. Identify problems and bring solutions.
  • 08. Treat everyone with respect.
  • 07. Listen actively.
  • 06. Be positive! Attitude determines altitude.
  • 05. Set expectations.
  • 04. Work Hard.
  • 03. Be prompt – even early.
  • 02. Seek feedback.
  • 01. Take charge of your own career!

Kindest Regards,
