Dear ACMP Mentors, Mentees, ALPFA Students, and Program Guests:
|
Thank you for attending the fifth event of the 2006-2007 ALPFA Chicago Mentorship Program this past Saturday at the offices of Sara Lee. With nearly 50 attendees at this event, I hope you came away with a better understanding of the functional areas that exist within a corporation and how studying finance and accounting can give you the flexibility to follow many different career paths. Our distinguished panelists did an excellent job describing not only what they do for Sara Lee, but they also shared with us the reasons why they have a passion for their work and their company. This is one of the few times where ALPFA student members have been able to gain a glimpse of the internal operations of an organization - as well as the opportunities. Beyond the words "accounting" and "finance," we learned how these disciplines assist professionals to identify challenges, apply their knowledge, and overcome obstacles - really, we saw how these two foundations can assist you in making better decisions to arrive at better outcomes - two hallmarks of a successful career.

I would like to thank our panelists again for contributing their time, insight, and experiences with us. They were:

- Amin Nabli - Manager, Category Planning (Moderator)
- Melissa Napier - Senior Vice President, Internal Audit
- Paul Marcy - Vice President, Tax
- April Darre - Vice President, National Sales Org. Finance
- Flavio Costa - Director, Treasury
- Jim Zirko - Director, Finance Supply Chain
